Solrun Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 1, 2026
Solrun is made by ClankerMode LLC ("ClankerMode", "we", "us"). This policy explains what data the Solrun app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Solrun has no accounts and no servers of its own. We never ask for your name, email, or phone number to use the app.
- Your GPS location, routes, distances, steps, and Screen Time data stay on your iPhone. We cannot see them.
- Some data leaves your phone to run subscriptions (Superwall) and to measure how the app is used (PostHog, which you can turn off).
- We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Who is responsible for your data
ClankerMode LLC, a New Mexico limited liability company, is the controller of the personal data described here. Its owner is responsible for privacy and can be reached at the email below.
ClankerMode LLC 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE, Ste R Albuquerque, NM 87110-7825 United States Email: support@clankermode.com
Data that stays on your iPhone
Solrun does most of its work on your device. The data below is stored on your iPhone (in the app's private storage, shared with Solrun's own widgets and extensions). It is not sent to ClankerMode, Superwall, or PostHog. The only ways it leaves your phone are your own device backups, Apple Maps, and share cards you choose to send, all described below.
| Data | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| Location (GPS) | Measures the distance of a walk or run. Solrun uses your location only while a run is being tracked, including when your phone is locked during that run. It never tracks you in the background at other times. |
| Route of each run | Saved with the run so the app can show a map of it on the run summary. |
| Motion and step data | Checks that you are moving, fills in distance when GPS is weak, and suggests starting a run if you are already walking when you open the app. |
| Run history | Start and end times, distance, steps, speed, and minutes earned for each run. |
| Minutes balance and history | Minutes you earned and spent, streaks, badges, and daily progress. |
| Screen Time settings | The apps, categories, and websites you choose to block, your schedules, and Strict mode settings. Apple gives Solrun these as coded tokens, so the app itself cannot see the names of the apps you pick. |
| Screen Time usage | How many minutes you spend in blocked apps during an unlock, so the meter can count down (in "block everything except" mode, all time on your iPhone counts), plus a before and after view of your screen time. The before and after view runs inside an Apple sandbox that cannot send data out. |
| Onboarding answers | Your answers to the setup questions (for example your age, daily screen time, how active you are, and your goals). Used to suggest a starting rate, show your personal numbers, and decide whether to ask about usage statistics. |
| Settings | Your rate, banking rules, notification choices, and Strict mode options. If you set an emergency code, only a scrambled version (a hash) is stored. |
A few related points:
- Maps. When the app shows your route on a map, Apple Maps loads the map images for that area. Apple handles that under its own privacy policy.
- Notifications. All of Solrun's notifications (warnings, run reminders, trial reminders, weekly recaps) are created on your iPhone. We do not use push notification servers.
- Live Activities and widgets. They show your balance, streak, and run progress on your Lock Screen and Home Screen. They read from the same on-device data.
- Share cards. If you tap Share, the app creates an image with your distance, active time, minutes earned, rate, and streak, or a milestone with your rate and streak (no map or location), and the iOS share sheet sends it wherever you choose. What happens next is up to you and that app.
- Backups. Like other app data, this data can be included in your own iCloud or computer backups of your iPhone.
- Apple Health. Solrun does not read from or write to Apple Health.
We do not use any Screen Time, location, motion, or fitness data for advertising, and we do not send it to our service providers.
Consumer health data (Washington, Nevada, and similar laws)
Some US state laws treat information about your physical activity as consumer health data. In Solrun, that is your walking and running data (GPS location, routes, distances, steps, pace, and run times) and your setup answers about how active you are and your goals.
- Solrun processes this data only on your iPhone, to measure your runs and suggest your rate. It is not sent to ClankerMode or to our service providers, and we do not sell or share it.
- If usage statistics are on, PostHog receives a note that a run was started, finished, or discarded, how it was measured (GPS, step counting, or neither), and whether it was recovered after the app closed. These notes carry your support ID. It never receives distance, steps, pace, duration, route, location, or minutes earned. You can turn usage statistics off in Solrun's settings at any time.
- Deleting the app deletes the walking and running data stored on your iPhone. It does not delete the run notes PostHog already received. To have those deleted, or for any other question or request about this data, email support@clankermode.com with the support ID shown in Solrun's settings.
Data that leaves your iPhone
Subscriptions: Apple and Superwall
Purchases are handled by Apple through In-App Purchase. Apple processes your payment under its own privacy policy. We never see your payment details, name, or Apple Account.
We use Superwall (Nest22, Inc., United States) to show subscription offers, run purchases through Apple, check whether you have Solrun Pro, and see how our offers perform. Superwall acts as our service provider (processor). The Superwall software in the app sends Superwall:
- identifiers: the support ID shown in Solrun's settings, a random ID that Superwall creates for your install, Apple's vendor identifier for your device, and Apple's app transaction ID for Solrun (Apple ties this to your Apple Account, so it stays the same if you reinstall). Solrun does not use the advertising identifier and does not show Apple's tracking prompt;
- device and app details: model, iOS version, app version, language, region, currency, time zone, App Store country, install date, network type (Wi-Fi or cellular), Low Power Mode, and display settings such as dark mode and text size;
- an approximate location (country, region, and city), which Superwall works out from your IP address each time the app starts;
- which offers are loaded for you, which test group you are in when we compare offer designs, how many offers you have seen, how long ago you last saw one, and how many times an offer asked you to rate the app;
- your subscription and purchase history: the app sends Apple's signed purchase records to Superwall, and Apple also tells Superwall when you start, renew, or cancel a subscription. Purchases made in Solrun carry the support ID.
Superwall also uses device details to estimate how likely an install is to subscribe (Superwall calls this a demand score). We do not use it to decide which prices or offers you see.
We have turned off Superwall's app event collection, so Superwall does not receive a log of how you use the app. Superwall does not receive your runs, routes, GPS location, motion data, or anything from Screen Time.
App usage statistics: PostHog
When usage statistics are on, Solrun sends PostHog, Inc. (United States) information about how the app is used. PostHog acts as our service provider (processor). This helps us find where people get stuck and fix it.
What is sent:
- events: when the app is installed, updated, opened, or moved to the background; which setup screens you reach and when you finish setup; when you turn usage statistics on, and which region rule applied at that moment (the Europe rules, the rules for everywhere else, or region not yet known); when a run is started, finished, or discarded (as described in the consumer health data section above); when a subscription offer is shown, closed, or skipped, and which part of the app asked for it; when an offer fails to load or cannot be found; and the steps of a purchase or restore, including which plan and which offer design;
- with each event: the support ID shown in Solrun's settings (the same ID Superwall receives), the app version and build, whether it is a release or development build, and device details: model, iOS version, language, time zone, screen size, whether you are on Wi-Fi or cellular, and whether the app is a TestFlight test build;
- technical details the analytics library adds, such as its name and version, the app's name and bundle identifier, the device type (for example "iPhone"), whether the app is running on a simulator, on a Mac, or was installed outside the App Store, event and session identifiers and timestamps, whether the app was freshly launched or returned from the background, and the previous version after an update.
What is not sent: your name, contact details, location, routes, distances, steps, minutes, or anything from Screen Time. We do not record your screen or capture your taps automatically. We have set PostHog to discard IP addresses and not to work out your location from them. PostHog stores this data in the United States.
When usage statistics are on
Solrun decides the default from your App Store country, your iPhone's region setting, your time zone, and the age you enter during setup. The age you enter stays on your iPhone and is never sent.
"Europe" below means the European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland. Solrun uses the Europe rules if your App Store country or your iPhone's region setting is in one of these, or if your iPhone's time zone is a European one. The time zone check is broad on purpose: it also catches nearby or overseas places such as Turkey, Russia, the Canary Islands, or Reunion.
| Your age (from setup) | In Europe | Everywhere else |
|---|---|---|
| 12 or under | Off. Solrun does not ask, and the setting is locked. | Off. Solrun does not ask, and the setting is locked. |
| 13 to 15 | Off. Solrun does not ask, and the setting is locked. | On by default. You can turn it off in settings. |
| 16 or over | Off until you agree. Solrun asks you right after the setup questions. | On by default. You can turn it off in settings. |
More details:
- Until you answer the age question, nothing is sent. If the Europe rules apply, events from the first setup screens are deleted right away. Otherwise up to 100 of them wait in memory on your iPhone while the app stays open. They are sent only if your age, your region, and any choice you made mean usage statistics are on, and are deleted otherwise. If you make a usage statistics choice yourself, the waiting events are deleted first, and only later events follow your choice.
- Where usage statistics are on by default and you have not made a choice yet, the first setup screen says: "Solrun sends usage statistics with a random ID to help improve the app. You can turn this off in Settings." Solrun shows this only once it knows your App Store country.
- If Solrun cannot get your App Store country, it uses the last one it received on this iPhone. If it has never received one, nothing is sent until it learns your country, unless you are 16 or over and turn usage statistics on yourself (setup asks you in this case).
- If you set up Solrun before this question existed and you are in Europe, Solrun asks you once. If your settings later change to a European country and you have never chosen, sending stops and Solrun asks you.
- Where the setting is not locked, you can turn usage statistics on or off at any time in Solrun's settings, and your choice always overrides the default. When you turn them off, Solrun stops sending right away.
Usage statistics are separate from subscriptions. Superwall receives the data described under "Subscriptions: Apple and Superwall", whatever your age or usage statistics setting, because the app needs it to show offers, sell and restore purchases, and check whether you have Solrun Pro.
Crash reports and statistics from Apple
If you have agreed in iOS settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us crash reports and anonymous usage and performance statistics about Solrun. Apple controls this. You can change it in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
Emails you send us
If you email support@clankermode.com, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you and to handle your request. Our email is hosted by Apple's iCloud Mail, so Apple stores these messages for us.
Why we use your data (legal bases)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on these legal bases:
- To show offers, sell and check your subscription, and keep purchase records with Superwall: performance of our contract with you, or steps you ask for before entering into it. Storing and reading the identifiers these features need on your device is strictly necessary to provide them.
- To work out an approximate location from your IP address and to measure how our offers perform with Superwall: our legitimate interest in running a sustainable app, balanced against your rights.
- Usage statistics through PostHog: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time in Solrun's settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect what was sent before you withdrew it.
- Processing on your iPhone (runs, minutes, Screen Time features): performance of our contract with you, to provide the features you use. Location, motion, and Screen Time access are also controlled by iOS permission prompts, which you can change at any time in the iOS Settings app.
- Answering support emails and handling privacy requests: our legitimate interest in helping you, and our legal obligations where a request is a legal right.
- Keeping records we must keep by law: legal obligation.
You have the right to object at any time to our use of your data based on legitimate interests (Superwall's approximate location and offer measurement, and support emails). Email support@clankermode.com to object.
You do not have to give us any personal data. Superwall's data is needed to offer, sell, and check subscriptions, so without it you cannot buy Solrun Pro. We do not make any decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.
How long we keep data
- Data on your iPhone, including your run history and routes, stays until you delete the app. Deleting Solrun removes all of it from the phone. Copies may remain in your own iPhone backups until those backups are replaced. If Strict mode is on, turn it off first, because Strict mode stops your iPhone from deleting any app, including Solrun.
- Superwall: kept for as long as our agreement with Superwall lasts. When it ends, we will ask Superwall within 30 days to delete or return the data, and Superwall then deletes it from its live systems (copies in its backups and archives follow its standard practices). You can ask us to have your install's data deleted sooner, as described below.
- PostHog: our PostHog plan keeps usage events available to us for 1 year. PostHog does not promise to erase older events at that point, so they may stay stored at PostHog, without being available to us, until we delete them. We delete them when you ask (see below) and when we delete our PostHog project.
- Support emails: kept for up to 2 years after your last message, then deleted.
Your choices and rights
You can always:
- turn off Location, Motion, Screen Time, or Notifications access in the iOS Settings app;
- turn usage statistics on or off in Solrun's settings, where the age rules above allow it;
- delete all on-device data by deleting the app;
- cancel your subscription in your iPhone's Settings app: tap your name, then Subscriptions.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent.
How to make a request:
- Email support@clankermode.com and include the support ID shown in Solrun's settings (Settings > Support ID, tap to copy). Because Solrun has no accounts, the support ID is the only way we can find the data our service providers hold for your install.
- Deleting Solrun removes its data from your iPhone, but not data already held by Superwall or PostHog. If you want that deleted too, copy your support ID before you delete the app. If you no longer have it, email us and we will tell you what we can find.
- For a deletion request, we delete the PostHog record for your support ID together with all of its events (PostHog removes events in a background job that runs at off-peak times, usually weekends, so this can take several days), and we ask Superwall to delete the data it holds for that ID. If your subscription is still active, Apple keeps telling Superwall about renewals, so cancel it first if you want that to stop.
- Apple keeps its own purchase records, which we cannot change or delete. You can ask Apple at privacy.apple.com.
We will answer within one month if you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland (we may extend this by up to two more months for complex requests, and will tell you if we do), and within 45 days elsewhere (extendable once by 45 days where US state law allows). We will not treat you differently for using your rights.
Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your data, you can complain to us at support@clankermode.com. We will confirm we received your complaint within 30 days, look into it without undue delay, and tell you what we found and what we did.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. In the EEA, that is the authority in the country where you live or work. In the UK, it is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In Switzerland, it is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (edoeb.admin.ch).
US state privacy rights
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (targeted ads).
- We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
- In the last 12 months, the categories we collected are: identifiers (support ID, Superwall's install ID, device vendor ID, Apple's app transaction ID, and your email address if you contact us), commercial information (subscription and purchase history), approximate location worked out from IP address, internet or app activity (app events and device details), and the content of any support emails you send. We keep each category for the periods in "How long we keep data" above. We collected them from the app on your device and from Apple, for the purposes in this policy, and disclosed them only to the service providers named above.
- Precise location and fitness data are used only on your device and are never collected by us.
- You or an authorized agent can use the rights above by emailing support@clankermode.com. We may need to confirm the request relates to your install before acting on it. If we deny a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer; we will respond to the appeal within 45 days.
International transfers
ClankerMode is based in the United States, and our service providers process data in the United States. If you use Solrun from another country, your data is transferred to the United States. For data from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland:
- Superwall: we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, with the UK Addendum and Swiss adjustments, which are part of Superwall's data processing terms.
- PostHog: PostHog, Inc. is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, the UK Extension to it, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (listed at dataprivacyframework.gov). Its data processing terms also include the Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK Addendum, and Swiss adjustments.
- Apple (iCloud Mail): Apple's own transfer safeguards apply to emails you send us.
You can ask us for a copy of these safeguards at support@clankermode.com.
How our service providers protect data
Our service providers act under data processing terms that allow them to use your data only to provide their service to us, and require them to keep it confidential and secure. They may use their own sub-processors (for example cloud hosting) under the same obligations. Their own security and privacy terms also apply to their services.
Data sent from the app travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Data on your iPhone is protected by iOS, including device encryption when your phone is locked.
Children
Solrun is not directed to children under 13. If you enter an age of 12 or under during setup, usage statistics stay off and nothing is sent to PostHog (see "When usage statistics are on"). Superwall still receives the subscription data needed for the app to work. If you believe a child under 13 has used Solrun and data about them reached us or our service providers, email support@clankermode.com, with the support ID from the app's settings if you can, and we will have it deleted.
Future iCloud sync
A future version may offer optional iCloud sync of your run history and balance. If we add it, your data would be stored in your own private iCloud account under Apple's privacy policy, which we cannot read. We will update this policy before it launches.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. If a change is important, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
